A thumbnail display apparatus and a method thereof for a user to search the thumbnail of a moving picture clip are provided to adjust the number of thumbnails displayed on a thumbnail list screen and search a static image and a moving picture. A thumbnail display device determines whether a preview function in which the thumbnails about the moving picture clip are indicated is selected(200). The thumbnail display device regenerates a moving picture about the thumbnail indicated by an indicator(210). The thumbnail display device determines the movement of the indicator according to the input of user(215). The thumbnail display device stops the current reproducing of moving picture. The moving picture about the thumbnail in which the freshly moved indicator is positioned is reproduced(220). The thumbnail display device rearranges the thumbnail corresponding to inputted control key of number(230). The rearranged thumbnail is indicated on the thumbnail display device. The reproducing of moving picture about the thumbnail is positioned(235). The preview function is not terminated by the user. The reproducing of moving picture is maintained(240).
