MODIFIED FIBER CEMENT MATERIAL

Fiber cement materials comprised of non-woody plant fiber were upgraded for their dispersion capability by agitating non-woody fiber with by-products from fossil fuel or biomass combustion providing a fiber slurry. The fiber slurry is combined with other ingredients providing a fiber cement composition which comprises: 30-90% on dry weight basis of total component of cementitious material, 30-50% on dry weight basis of total component of siliceous material, 10-40% on dry weight basis of total component of filler, 1-10% on dry weight basis of total component of fiber from non-woody plant, 0.5-5.0% on dry weight basis of total component of by-products from fossil fuel or biomass combustion, and 1-10% on dry weight basis of total component of a crystal modifier. Curing the fiber cement compositions provides cement products with improved mechanical properties and durability than those prepared from woody fiber.
