PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element in which high light extraction efficiency and directivity control are achieved.SOLUTION: A light-emitting element comprises: a translucent substrate having a first main face, a second main face opposite to the first main face, a first side face adjacent to the first main face and second main face, a second side face facing the first side face, a third side face adjacent to the second side face, and a fourth side face facing the third side face; a semiconductor laminate stacked on the first main face of the translucent substrate; a first light reflection member for covering the first side face, second side face, fourth side face and second main face of the translucent substrate; and a second light reflection member that covers the face of the semiconductor laminate, which face is opposite to the translucent substrate. In the translucent substrate, a cross-section perpendicular to the first main face and parallel to a cross-section crossing the third side face and fourth side face is shown as a first recessed diagram including a first recessed part. The furthest recessed portion of the first recessed part is arranged further inside than the outer edge of the semiconductor laminate.
