A system for requesting the bandwidth allocation and allocating a bandwidth and a method therefor are provided to reduce the overhead due to the bandwidth request and improve the QoS(Quality of Service) of each CID by enabling a base station to recognize the bandwidths necessary for each CID without the separate overhead. A mobile station # 2(710) connects a type 2 grant processing sub header(730) including bandwidth information required for a CID #302(703) to a generic MAC header(720) including CID # 105(701) information, and transmits the connected result to a base station. The base station receiving message from the mobile station #2 detects the CID #302 which occupies the sixth on a CID list and the bandwidth requested by the CID #302 through the type 2 grant processing sub header, and then assigns the bandwidth to the mobile station #2.
