WIRELESS TELEPHONE SYSTEM FOR SUBSCRIBER LOCATION MEASUREMENT WITH DIVERSITY TRANSMISSION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system that utilizes time/space diversity.

SOLUTION: A packet containing synchronizing information is transmitted at different times from different antennas. A mobile station receives the packet at different times from different antennas and uses the best packet or a combination of the packets to reduce the effects of fading. At a base station, data packet repeats are formed at spatially diverse antenna locations. Furthermore, a code division multiple access (CDMA) system is modulated using a TDMA signal. Therefore, each packet is transmitted at different times to a mobile station subcarrier on a CDMA link. In one embodiment, each transfer station has three space diversity antennas. In a second embodiment, three transfer stations are used each of which has one spatially separate antenna.
