<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has improved color balance and excellent display performance by improving color balance by controlling the quantity of transmitted light to liquid crystal by arranging projection parts which are different in height for color element region parts even when transmitted light transmitted through the liquid crystal is cut off by projection parts controlling alignment of the liquid crystal. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 100 comprises an element substrate 29 being a first substrate, a color filter substrate 39 being a second substrate arranged opposite the element substrate 29, liquid crystal 24 sandwiched between the element substrate 29 and filter substrate 39, a plurality of color element region parts 1 provided on the color filter substrate 39, a plurality of kinds of color elements formed at the color element region parts 1, and ribs 7 being the projection parts for alignment control formed projecting at the color element region parts 1.
