The present invention relates to a pattern generating method and apparatus that may test image quality of a display panel having a high resolution using a PC without using a pattern generator having a high price. To achieve this, in connection with the display panel to be tested and a PC connected to the display panel, the PC includes: a key input unit as an input means that inputs a command for testing the image quality of the display panel; a display as a display means that provides a screen such that setting of the key input unit is possible; a control unit that performs a control to create pattern data using a copying and pasting function in accordance with a resolution set through the key input unit and output the pattern data on the display panel; and a memory that stores the pattern data generated by the control unit, and includes a serial conversion unit that provides a serial interface with the display panel, and a pattern transmission unit that transmits the pattern data stored in the memory to the serial conversion unit. The present invention may test operational characteristics of a UHD display panel using a PC without using a pattern generator having a high price and may reduce a capacity of a memory necessary for testing the UHD display panel, so that manufacturing costs may be reduced. |
