PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid discharge device with which the liquid usage history, such as how much liquid is left in the tank, is easily and accurately confirmed on the user or device side without increasing cost, and also to provide a control method for the same and an ink tank. SOLUTION: An inkjet printer 1 that discharges ink from an inkjet head 21 to print on recording paper 12 has: a cartridge loading unit 15 in which an ink cartridge 17 is loaded; the inkjet head 21 that discharges the ink drawn from the ink cartridge 17; a reader/writer that reads and writes an ink usage history in the ink cartridge 17 to an IC chip 52 disposed in the ink cartridge 17; and a control unit for controlling a printable part 51, on the outside surface of the ink cartridge 17, to print at least a part of the ink usage history written in the IC chip 52 with the inkjet head 21.
