PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a carboxylic acid ester by which the ester can efficiently be produced while reducing the number of used poisonous substances than that in a conventional method. SOLUTION: The method for producing the carboxylic acid ester includes reacting an ester (R<SP>1</SP>-C(O)O-R<SP>2</SP>) with an alcohol (R<SP>3</SP>-OH) in the presence of a metal hydroxide to afford the ester (R<SP>1</SP>-C(O)O-R<SP>3</SP>) represented by formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a condensed polycyclic aromatic group; and R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each a group selected from an aliphatic hydrocarbon group and an aromatic hydrocarbon group).
