The ring seal (4), for a piston (2) moving within a cylinder (3), is fitted into a groove (1). The seal has a radial structure, with a projection (7) aligned in an axial direction at the end of the seal away from its ring foot (6) and between it and a lip (8). The groove holds the ring seal at least partially, or has a step to hold the seal completely. One groove wall (10) is shorter to lie under the projection.
