PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for a sliding member, which is excellent in friction/wear characteristics even under many different use conditions including drying friction conditions, conditions in oil, oil lubrication conditions, and the like and a sliding member produced using the composition. SOLUTION: The resin composition for a sliding member comprises 5-40 wt.% barium sulfate, 1-30 wt.% phosphate, 1-10 wt.% one, two, or more types of resins selected from a polyimide resin, a baked phenolic resin, and a polyphenylene sulfone resin, and a tetrafluoroethylene resin composing the remainder. The sliding member is formed by filling the pores of and coating the surface of a sintered porous metal layer formed on steel back metal with the above resin composition.
