An optimiser comprising an algorithm and process for determining a sequence of schedulable items where there is changeover times between individual schedulable items on the equipment that produces the item. The optimiser minimises changeover times between sequential operations based on a hierarchy of defined priorities in the consideration of modelled constraints of the physical environment. The optimiser groups orders with similar attributes and synchronises stoppages required between incompatible order attributes so that where possible, changeovers occur at the same time creating a harmonic distribution over a given time period.
