PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing acetic acid, an improved method where, cations such as Li and iodide, particularly, from a low energy carbonylation process is removed to obtain refined acetic acid.SOLUTION: Provided is a method where a component such as methanol is carbonylated in the presence of below 0.1 to 14 wt.% of water, an Rh catalyst, methyl iodine and iodine salt to form a reaction medium, the reaction medium is separated into a liquid re-circulation flow and a vapor product flow, in a distillation column within the main refining system, the vapor product flow is separated to produce crude acetic acid including one or more kinds of cations selected from the group IA, IIA or the like, the crude acetic acid is contacted with a cation exchanger in an acid form to produce an intermediate acid product, and the intermediate acetic acid product is contacted with a metal-exchanged ion exchange resin having an acid cation exchange part to produce refined acetic acid. Also provided is a method where the metal-exchanged ion-exchanged resin includes one or more kinds of metals selected from Ag, Hg, Pd and Rh.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
