PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video image recording/reproducing device facilitating management of recorded video images. SOLUTION: A system control circuit 110 provided in a DVD recorder as one embodiment of the video image recording/reproducing device includes: a reservation recording control circuit 510 for controlling the processing of reservation recording to a DVD driving device or a hard disk device; a management data generation circuit 520 for generating management data in a hard disk or a DVD; a thumbnail information generation circuit 530 for generating a thumbnail generation point on the basis of time information made to relate to video image data inputted to the hard disk or the DVD; a thumbnail change detection circuit 540 for detecting the change of a thumbnail on the basis of the instruction inputted to the operating part and the instruction to select video image data recorded in the hard disk or the DVD; and judgement circuit 550 for judging whether or not the same thumbnail generation point is usable.
