PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily secure the authenticity of electronic mail by monitoring the electronic mail transmitted from respective client terminals to the outside within an intranet and keeping secrecy on a public line. SOLUTION: The ciphered mail system comprises: a first mail server for processing the electronic mail transmitted and received to/from the client terminals on the inner side of the intranet including the client terminals; a second mail server for receiving the electronic mail from the client terminals arranged inside a public line network arranged outside the intranet; and a gateway server arranged at the gate of the intranet between the first and second mail servers. The gateway server comprises: a ciphering processing means for performing the ciphering processing of the electronic mail from the first mail server; a signature information addition means for adding signature information; a deciphering processing means for performing the deciphering processing of the ciphered electronic mail from the public line network; and a signature information verification means for verifying the signature information of the electronic mail with a signature.
