A process for treating plastic waste which contains polyethylene terepthalate, comprises continuously treating the waste with a solvent that contains ethylacetate. Part of the solvent is separated from the plastic waste after the treatment. The polyethylene terepthalate is vacuum dried at 160-190[deg]C at a pressure less than 20mbar, and is rinsed with an inert gas to remove residual solvent and recondition the polyethylene terepthalate. The organic solvent is cleansed by distillation, and the solvent in the polymer matrix is driven out during reconditioning. The arrangement used comprises a liquid separator (22), a pump (28), a container (24), a distillation unit (16) and an extractor (8).
