The shaft rod (10) is attached at the lower end to a holder for a steering wheel and at the other end to a loop-type handle (14) which can be gripped centrally at the back and which contains an operating device with operating lever (22, 24) mounted on each side of an attachment (16) to swivel in the plane spanned by the handle. The two operating levers act on a common adjusting element connected to a push or pull element so that pulling on the operating levers from a neutral position causes a lowering action and pressing on the levers causes a lift motion. The operating levers are linked through a coupling mechanism so that the lowering process is effected by pulling a single operating lever or both levers simultaneously and the lifting process is by pressing a single or both levers.
