<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for treating dermatological disorder by using optical radiation, which more specifically requires a low-energy and/or low-cost radiation source due to its use of continuous wave (CW) radiation, and requires the heating of a treatment region before applying the radiation and/or using techniques for the radiation use improvement. <P>SOLUTION: Methods and apparatus for dermatological treatment are provided which involve the use of continuous wave (CW) radiation, the preheating and precooling of the treatment volume, the cooling of the outer layer of the skin above the treatment volume during and after the treatment, and the use of less-dispersing beam focus techniques or others, designed to reduce optical radiation costs in the dermatological treatment related to hair removal or others, while enhancing its effect. The apparatus has an applicator 22 that can be moved over the skin by hand, which includes a head 24 to be in contact with the skin and a handle 26 for an surgeon to move the head 24 in the direction 28 across the skin, so as to ensure good heat and optical contact conditions by the contact. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
