A steering system 1 includes an upper jacket 10 that is movable in an axial direction X, a first stopper member 41 fixed to the upper jacket 10, and a second stopper member 42 on a vehicle body. When a lock and unlock mechanism 4 unlocks the upper jacket 10, the second stopper member 42 moves to an advanced position where the second stopper member 42 faces the first stopper member 41 in the axial direction X. When the lock and unlock mechanism 4 locks the upper jacket 10, the second stopper member 42 moves to a retracted position where the second stopper member 42 retracts from the advanced position.
