<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for measuring the movable load of strands for tobacco-processing industry by the amount of materials that can quickly discriminate the movable load with good sensitivity from the ordinal density and other ordinal parameters of the strands. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The amount of materials, particularly the load of the strands for tobacco-processing industry, especially the load of the filter strands are measured with equipping a plasticizer and/or activated carbon by guiding the strand through a wave guide 22 through which the strand is passing. The method comprises a process in which an alternating current electromagnetic field is connected to the wave guide 22 through a connection device 28 and the frequency of the alternating current electromagnetic field has a size to generate transmission by total reflection in the wave guide 22 in relation to the size of the wave guide 22, a process for separating the alternating current electromagnetic field from the wave guide 22 by a separation device 32 and a process for measuring absorbability of the alternating current electromagnetic field.
