PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of reducing a steering load at assist start even when failure occurs in torque detection means.SOLUTION: An electric power steering device includes: an electric motor 110 for applying assist force to steering of a steering wheel of a vehicle; a torque sensor 109 for detecting steering torque of the steering wheel; a steering angle sensor 180 for detecting a steering angle that is a rotating angle of the steering wheel; a steering angle calculation section 73 for estimating the steering angle; a sensor failure detection section 27 for detecting failure of the torque sensor 109; and a sensor failure time current determination section 28 for controlling the electric motor 110 so as to attain the assist force on the basis of a difference between the steering angle detected by the steering angle sensor 180 and the steering angle estimated by the steering angle calculation section 73 when the sensor failure detection section 27 detects failure.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
