PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultra-compact zoom lens having a camera shake correction function suitable for compact optical equipment using a solid imaging element etc. SOLUTION: The zoom lens comprises, in order from an object side along an optical axis: a first lens group G1 of positive refractive power including an optical path bending element for bending the optical path by nearly 90°; a second lens group G2 of negative refractive power; a third lens group G3 of positive refractive power; and a fourth lens group G4 of positive refractive power. In the case of varying a focal distance from a wide-angle end state W to a telephoto end state T, the second lens group G2 is moved toward the image side, the fourth lens group G4 is moved toward the object side once, thereafter, moved toward the image surface I. In the case of focusing from an object at a long distance to an object at a close distance, focusing is performed by moving the fourth lens group G4 in the optical axis direction in the wide-angle end state W and the telephoto end state T, but, in the focal distance state other than the states, focusing is performed by moving the second lens group G2 in the optical axis direction.
