<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability and operability of a fail-safe mechanism of a steer-by-wire system having an electric back-up means. <P>SOLUTION: The steering force transmitting mechanism of the steer-by-wire system 100 is composed of a cable 70 formed of a push-pull wire, a cable winding device 71 for winding the cable 70, a cable driving mechanism 72 for driving a gear box 18G' based on the tension of the cable 70, and a cable tension changing means 73 for controlling the tension of the cable 70. The DC voltage to be supplied to a mechanical rectifier 35 (steering motor commutation means) is selected from any one of a low voltage to be supplied from a battery BT0 and a high voltage to be supplied from a battery BT1 by a supply voltage changing means to be composed using a switch SW2.
