<p>The procedure for continuous hardening of steel strips (10), comprises heating the strip material for hardening on a hardening temperature, quenching the strips, and pressing the strips mechanically under simultaneous heating to tempering temperature. During the pressing, the strip material is heated quickly with heating gradients of 500 K/s on tempering temperature and held at the tempering temperature as well as finally cooled down. The surface of the steel strip is covered with a protection cover (5, 6). The pressing is accomplished under productive gas atmosphere.
