<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an irradiation catheter for a narrowed part of a blood vessel, inserted into any narrowed part through a guide wire. <P>SOLUTION: This irradiation catheter is an assembly used for placing a nuclear irradiation source at a position selected within blood vessels. The catheter includes a flexible tubular catheter body with an internal hole, an elongated radioactive ribbon disposed in the internal hole, at least one radioactive element installed on the ribbon, a guide wire groove formed on the catheter body, and a guide wire arranged within the guide wire groove. Part of the guide wire groove is formed in the vicinity of the distal end of the catheter body to enable the application of the catheter body as one smoothly replaceable with another catheter. The catheter body further has a second wire guide groove formed in the vicinity of the proximal end of the catheter body.
