An audio communication system comprises, in the transmitter, a data embedding device composed of an embeddability judging section (41) for computing an analysis parameter of an inputted audio signal and judging from an analysis parameter whether or not the inputted audio signal is a portion in which data is embeddable, an embedding section (42) for outputting the audio signal in the embeddable portion in which data is embedded if the result of the judgment by the embeddability judging section shows that data is embeddable or outputting the audio signal as it is if the result shows that data cannot be embedded, and, in the receiver, a data extracting device for extracting data by the reverse procedure. With this, data can be embedded in an audio signal without causing an unallowable variation of the sound quality and lowering the amount of data embedded because of the embedment in a portion not suitable for embedment.
