The method involves assigning a test pattern (4) to sensors, where the test pattern comprises a set of transparent stripes (S), where breath (BS) of the stripes is smaller than breath (BP) of pixels, and a distance between the stripes is larger than the pixel breath and is unequal to the pixel breath. The test pattern is irradiated with a parallel light such that a sensor pixel is selected, and a line spread function for a standardized sensor-pixel is determined by the interpretation of the sensor pixels under the stripes. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining line spread function and/or modulation transfer function of photosensitive line or matrix sensors by using a test pattern.
