A method for producing a copper which comprises: a first step wherein a copper-containing material is added into a solution containing an oxidant so as to dissolve copper therein; and a second step wherein a solution (A) that contains an oxidant in a reduced state and the solution (B), in which copper is dissolved, are brought into contact with each other with a diaphragm being interposed therebetween, and a voltage is applied between electrodes by providing the solution (A) with an anode-side electrode and providing the solution (B) with a cathode-side electrode so that copper is precipitated on the surface of the cathode-side electrode, while regenerating the oxidant contained in the solution (A). In this connection, the standard potential of the oxidant is 1.6 V or less.
