According to an embodiment of the present invention, the superconductor includes a substrate, and a superconductive layer provided on the substrate. The superconduction layer has a first surface on the side of the substrate, and a second surface on the opposite side of the first surface. The lattice constant of the substrate substantially matches the lattice constant of the superconduction layer. The superconduction layer includes REA1-xREBxBa2Cu3O7-z. x is 0.01-0.40. z is 0.02-0.20. REA includes at least one of Y, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu. REB includes at least one of Nd and Sm. The superconduction layer has a first surface-side region which includes one portion of the first surface. The thickness of the first surface-side region in a first direction from the first surface toward the second surface is 70% of the average thickness of the superconduction layer in the first direction. The length of the first surface-side region in a second direction parallel to the first surface is 2 µm. The first surface-side region includes oriented first and second regions. The degree of orientation in the second region is lower than the degree of orientation in the first region. The length of the second region in the second direction is not larger than 0.15 times of the length of the first surface-side region. |
