PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving support device and a driving support method capable of performing inexpensive and appropriate driving support.SOLUTION: A driving support device includes: a communication part 40 for acquiring statistical traffic information including the average speed, average vehicle head time, average inter-vehicle distance and traffic density of a vehicle at spots around an own vehicle on a road on which the own vehicle travels; a driving mode determination part 44 for determining which driving mode between an automatic driving mode for automatically controlling the traveling of the own vehicle and a manual driving mode for manually controlling the traveling of the own vehicle by a driver is set for controlling the traveling of the own vehicle on the basis of the statistical traffic information acquired by the communication part 40, and for setting a driving control parameter including the speed, inter-vehicle distance and vehicle head time when the own vehicle travels in the automatic driving mode; and a vehicle control part 46 for controlling the traveling of the own vehicle on the basis of the driving control parameter set by the driving mode determination part 44 in the automatic driving mode.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
