<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To vary luminance weights of respective sub-fields during image display while suppressing deterioration in picture quality such as a flicker. <P>SOLUTION: An image display device wherein one frame of an image signal comprises a plurality of sub-fields and a multi-level display is made by performing light-emission or non-light-emission control over the respective sub-fields includes a table storage 111 unit which store a plurality of luminance weight tables wherein luminance weights to be allocated to the respective sub-fields are determined, an image analyzing unit 112 which analyzes the image signal and selects one luminance weight table corresponding to features of the image signal, and a table output unit 113 which reads the selected luminance weight table out of the table storage unit and outputs it. The table output unit is configured to output one or more transition luminance tables determined such that when choices of luminance weight tables are switched, luminance weights allocated to the respective sub-fields change in steps from luminance weights of the luminance weight table selected in the past to luminance weights of the newly selected luminance weight table. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
