A lock (10) having a body (12), an engaging element (14) having a first end (18), a locking mechanism for securing the first end (18) to the body (12), the locking mechanism adapted to selectively conceal or reveal a passage (32) in the body (12), through translation of a sliding gate (20), through which the first end (18) may move to unlock the lock (10); the engaging element (14) has a second end (16) which is retained by the body (12) at all times but is free to rotate. In other aspects, a lock (10) has a body (12), a shackle (14) having heel and toe portions (16), (18), the heel portion (18) engaged within the body (12), and a gate mechanism (20) for selectively concealing or revealing a passage 32 in the body (12) from which the toe portion (18) may move to unlock the lock 10, wherein movement of the toe portion (18) is achieved through rotation of the toe (18) about the heel (16). |
