PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pick-up device capable of stably, accurately detecting whether or not small pieces of workpiece on a holding body. SOLUTION: The pick-up device holds a chip-like small piece workpiece W with a holding body 1 and conveys it from a pick-up position to a predetermined supply position. The pick-up device is equipped with a determination means 15 which irradiates detection light through the holding body 1, and determines existence or non-existence of the holding of the small piece workpiece W by the holding body 1 based on whether or not the detection light is blocked by the small pieces of workpiece W. The wavelength of the detection light is made to be different from disturbance light irradiated to the small pieces of workpiece W.
