One of the workpieces has a guide surface parallel to the direction of relative movement of the workpieces along which the welding surface of the other is slid until its edge comes into contact with the striking plane of the other when the weld current is switched on, assisting in the shearing of the second workpiece during the continued movement of the workpieces relative to each other resulting in the formation of a weld seam along the shear plane. A stop is pref. incorporated in the design of the weld area to limit the extent of relative movement of the workpieces, and to permit an aligning dwell after the current is switched off. The process is used for joining of rotational symmetrical components such as clutch rings and gear wheels. Its advantage is that no extraneous aligning jigs need be provided.
|
