Title cpds. of formula (I): (where R1 is H, 1-6C alkyl, (opt. halogenated phenyl)-(1-3C alkyl), or hydroxy-, alkoxy-, phenoxy- or opt. halogenated benzoyl-(1-3C alkyl) and R2 is halogen in the energetically prefd. (esp. para- posn.) are prepd. by reacting cpds. of formulae (II)-(IV): (where R3 is H or halogen and R4 is H or opt. halogenated benzoyl) with a halobenzen in the presence of Friedel-Crafts catalysts or by nuclear-halogenating cpds. of formula (V).
