1395079 Frying appliances MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 10 Oct 1972 [17 April 1972] 46640/72 Heading A4D A frying appliance comprises a container 10 for frying oil, an electrical heater 13 for heating the oil, means 12 for closing the container in a fluid tight manner, a basin 11 for water and communicating with the atmosphere, and a vent pipe 30 providing a passage for fumes emanating from foodstuff cooked in the oil in container 10, the fumes being diverted by the pipe 30 into the water in basin 11 so that the fumes may be dissolved in the water. Foodstuff is supported in a basket 24 which can be raised and lowered by a rack 21 and pinion 19 operated by a knob 20. An electric heating element 13 is protected from water droplets by a shield plate 15 having slots 16 and an annular groove 17 for collecting said droplets. Current to heater 13 is controlled by a thermostatic switch 49, 50, 51 adjustable by a sliding knob 43. Fumes from pipe 30 pass into the basin 11 via a rubber cylinder 63 located in an aperture in a disc 58 which is perforated, the hole size increasing towards the disc periphery, and breaks up bubbles formed by the fumes into smaller bubbles. The container 10 is closed by a lid 12 pivoted at 32 and releasably held by a pivoted catch 36 in sealing engagement with a sealing ring 29 the lid 12 having a central window 35 under a handle 31. The ring 29 is mounted in a groove on a member 25 on the upper rim of container 10, a second groove on member 25 being provided to collect water vapour condensed on the lid 12 when open, such water then flowing via a pipe 57, on the outside of container 10, into basin 11 via a spout 56 thereof. In an alternative embodiment the vent pipe 30 is flexible and leads to a water basin not otherwise structurally associated with the container 10. |
