Magnesia moulding compsn - contg chlorides and sulphates in low proportion to facilitate setting, for rapid pressure-moulding

magnesia compsn. is formulated to permit rapid moulding at high pressure and to allow hardening to be essentially by carbonation, resulting in a hydrolysis and dimension stable carbonate binding. Chloride and sulphate salts are present in amt. =7% to allow the moulding and compacting of the agglomerate, and by virtue of their pH, to catalyze and accelerate the carbonation. The colouration, efflorescence, hygroscopicity, dimensional instability, and elevated demoulding temp., associated with conventional Sorel cement, are obviated. Uses are for tiles paving, and polishable stones etc.
