Continuous separation on ind. scale of mixtures of substances capable of crystallization, partic. isomers, e.g. of xylene varies known rectifying crystallization, sepg. the component with m.pt. by first cooling the liq. feed to a temp. within its eutectic range, then transferring the resulting suspension contg. crystals already formed in the mixture into a settling vessel held at the feed temp. from which it moves downwards into the rectifying column proper with the column sump held at the m.pt. of the crystals. Appts. has low temp. cooling vessel with its down pipe ending at a point about halfway down the settling tank, which terminates into a tapering connection to the rectifying column, which may have axially rotating agitators or grid trays.
|
