<p>Collagen-base binding or coating material for wikcer furniture, produced from animal hides by removing keratinous components (hair and epidermis) and the fatty and fleshly underskin, and cutting the hide into strips or other shapes, is improved in that the unhaired hide is tanned on both sides with vegetable or synthetic tanning agents in such a manner that the collagen is affected on both sides, but not in the central part. Thus, the material acquires superficial softness and appearance of leather, whilst the central part can harden like raw hide forming strong binding.</p> |
