<p>Crosslinking of hydrophilic colloids contng. amino, imino and/or hydroxyl gps. esp. gelatine layers of photographic materials, is effected by means of cpds. which have a half life of >=4 hrs. in aqs. soln. at 40 degrees C., and have formula (I):- (where Y is a C or P atom; A, Y and N form part of an aromatic, >=5 membered heterocyclic ring; A contains >=1 additional reactive gp.; D is an O or S atom; E+ is an oxonium, sulp onium, ammonium or phosphonium gp.; Q and T are each monovalent (un)satd. org. gps., or together form part of an aromatic heterocyclic gp.; X- is an anion; and m is 1 or 2). Low concns. of cpds. (I) rapidly crosslink gelatine layers of photographic materials, without altering the pH of the emulsions. The crosslinked gelatine is very stable and resistant to hydrolysis.</p> |
