Yarn spinning - with false twist inserted upstream of insertion of unidirectional twist

A fibre roving is advanced through a drafting roll assembly the delivery rolls of which feed the roving to a ring and traveller spinning device and upstream of the delivery roll assembly the roving passes between a pair of endless belts (or similar devices) which impart a false twist to the roving in same direction as the unidirectional twist inserted by the ring and traveller device. The roving passing from the delivery roll assembly to the ring and traveller device in the form of a balloon retains a certain amount of residual false twist which increases its tenacity and thereby reduces the likelihood of breakage. The endless belts may be contacted by a wick immersed in a bath of conditioning fluid, whereby the conditioning fluid is applied by the belts to the roving as the false twist is imparted.
