Flame resistant laminate consisting of a substrate, a surface sheet and a layer of a vinylidene chloride/vinyl chloride copolymer with a low flame transmitting rate is produced by (a) supplying the substrate along a first path, (b) uniformly distributing a layer of the copolymer over a surface of the substrate, (c) heating the copolymer layer on the substrate in order to soften it to a tacky state, (d) supplying the surface sheet along a second path, (e) converging the surface sheet and the substrate to a common path to form a laminate, (f) exercising pressure on the laminate so that the surface sheet, the copolymer layer and the substrate are placed in intimate contact with each other, and (g) maintaining the contact pressure on the laminate as it is cooled in order to harden the copolymer layer and bond the surface sheet to the substratae. |
