<p>Blowing agent for prodn. of foamed thermoplastic polymers consist of 0.1-10 pref. 0.1-2 wt.% based on polymer, of a neutral metal salt of formic and/or oxalic acid. The polymer is pref. a synthetic linear aliphatic polyamide pref. nylon 6 or 66 or a synthetic linear polyester pref. polyethylene terephthalate. The blowing agent is pref. Zn formate. The foamable mixt. pref. also contains a stabiliser which converts the metal cations into a catalytically inactive form pref. an oxygenated acid of tri- or pentavalent P its salt or phenyl ester. Enable polyesters and polyamides to be foamed without degradation, esp. foamed fibres.</p> |
