<p>Vioform, 5-chloro-7-iodo-8-hydroxy quinoline (I), a known antiinfection agent, is purified by dissolving in DMF or dichloroethane and treatment with H2O2 and acetic or formic acids. 0.1-1 moles labile oxygen and 1-3 moles acid being used per mole of (I). In an example, 600 g. crude (I) was dissolved in 3 l. DMF at 70 degrees C, cooled to 25 degrees C, and treated with 120 ml. 110 vol. H2O2, 480 ml. distilled water, and 60 ml. acetic acid. After 1 hr. the prodt. was filtered off and washed with DMF and acetone to give 540 g. pure (I).</p> |
