The invention relates to feeding and registering sheets to printing machines. Instead of a side lay there is arranged a measuring head, measuring the side position of the incoming sheet which is shifted away from the side lay line according to the difference of a measured value and a target value. The sheet can be shifted by a suction pulling bar or a stop drum or an intermediate drum respectively.
