<p>1322387 Dispensing liquids ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO 18 Dec 1970 [2 Jan 1970] 60353/70 Heading A4T Apparatus for dispensing fluid, e.g. petrol, to a vehicle comprises fluid storage means; transfer means, for delivery of fluid into the vehicle tank, adapted to be inserted into a fluid-receiving means of the vehicle; identifying means adapted to be located on the fluid-receiving means and to identify the vehicle by a code; sensing means for sensing the vehicle-identifying code; and a recording system for automatically recording the vehicle identity and the amount of fluid dispensed. The identifying means may be mounted on the filler pipe or on the filler pipe cap, and may be a series of electrical resistances whose respective sizes represent a digit to assign a code number to the vehicle, the recording means measuring the value of each resistance and storing the digit derived, dispensing only being allowed after the complete code number has been read. The recording means may be set back to its initial state either by a manual pushbutton, or automatically on removing the transfer means from the filler pipe. When the identifying means are on the filler-pipe cap, this is preferably attached to the vehicle, e.g. by a chain, to make it difficult to connect the recording means and the identifying means without also having the nozzle in the filler pipe.</p> |
