(A) 1, 2, 4-Benzothiadiazine-1, 1-dioxides of the general formula (I). where R = 2-cyclopentenyl, or 3-cyclopentenyl X and Y = Cl, Br, CF3-, -NO2 or -CH3, but when either group is -NO2 or -CH3, then the other must be Cl, Br, or -CF3. (B) Pharmaceutically acceptable salts of (I). (C) Pharmaceutical preparations containing (I). Blood-pressure lowering agents. The crude product is cooled, filtered off and recrystallised from methanol-acetone to give 3-(3-cyclopentenyl)-6,7-dichloro-2H-1, 2, 4-benzothiadiazine-1, 1-dioxide, m.p. 344-346 deg.C.
