Granular/flaked fibrous adsorbent - where adsorbent particles bound to low melting component of conj fibres

The conjugate fibres are produced from >=2 thermoplastic synthetic organic polymers, the low melting component having m.pt. >=50 degrees C lower than the other components. The adsorbent is produced (1) by cutting the fibres to 0.1-15 mm length (2) adding 5-150 wt % finely divided adsorbent (3) mixing to form flakes or granules (4) heating to a temp. above the m.pt. of the low melting component but lower than m.pts. of the other components and (5) cooling. Used in gas masks, vehicle deodourisers ind. air filters, sepn. of radioactive trace impurities and heavy metal cpds. from sea water and in water purification. Adsorbent is readily moulded in required shape and has low resistance.
