PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an information protection device that limits access to a storage unit to limit access to the storage unit with a simple structure if unauthorized use is expected.SOLUTION: In a communication system, a multi-function peripheral (MFP) comprises a memory for storing data, a communication unit for performing communication via a network, and a control unit for controlling the reading and writing of data from and into the memory and communication using the communication unit. The control unit stores a network setting value representing a value set in the MFP according to a connection state to the network in the memory as a first setting value (S170), and compares a new network setting value obtained as a second setting value from the network with the first setting value stored in the memory (S130).
