Reprodn. is controlled by admin. of a quat. ammonium complex of formula (I) to the female (where R1 is not >22C aliphatic phenyl or benzyl hydrocarbon or R5O- or HOR6O where R5 is not >5C alkyl and R6 is not 5C alkenyl; R2, R3 and R4 are is not >20C aliphatic and A- is a pharm. acceptable anion). (I) may be mixed with animal feedstuffs or baits. R1 is pref. an alkyl radical derived from a long chain natural fatty acid. Complexes of (I) with tetracycline derivs. also have sterilising props.
